In the 1920’s Joseph and Clara Pilates created a system of exercises they called Contrology. Now known as Pilates, it focuses on using correct body alignment with a strong emphasis on core (trunk muscles) strength. Pilates uses precise controlled movements to increase flexibility and strength. To achieve good health, Joseph Pilates believed in the importance of a connection between the mind and body. His conditioning system followed a holistic approach. He coordinated the breath and movement along with body awareness and efficient use of energy. As a result one uses the correct muscles and achieves the most benefits from the exercises. This can be very helpful in injury prevention and rehabilitation. Some of the benefits you can expect to get from doing Pilates are, long lean muscles, better posture, stronger abdominals and back muscles, better coordination and grace and a more centered and present state of being. Pilates ultimately creates balance and harmony in the body. |
